Students and members of the public, as part of a pre-announced programme, stormed the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on Dhanmondi road 32 on Wednesday evening), breaking its gates and vandalising the premises. The incident began around 7:30pm when groups of protesters gathered near the museum. By 8:00pm, they had broken the gate and entered the museum, initiating acts of destruction. The Facebook page of the National Citizens Committee had earlier announced plans for a "bulldozer procession" heading toward Dhanmondi road 32. The protest was organised by students to denounce what they described as the anti-Bangladesh activities of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who orchestrated violence against thousands of students before fleeing to Delhi. This act of vandalism aligns with similar incidents following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina on August 5. On that day, after a 36-day-long mass movement demanding quota reform, news broke of her resignation and departure from the country. Enraged crowds then surged into Ganabhaban (the President's residence) and the Prime Minister’s Office. That same evening, several statues of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were dismantled across the capital. Around 4:00 PM, the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 was set ablaze, and the portrait of Bangabandhu displayed in the tribute section outside the museum was also burned.
