
Former State Minister for Home Affairs, Lutfozzaman Babar, has been acquitted of a 17-year sentence in an arms case. The High Court bench, comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Nasreen Akter, delivered the verdict on Wednesday.On May 28, 2007, during the tenure of the caretaker government, Babar was detained after illegal firearms and bullets were found in the bedroom of his Gulshan residence. On June 3 of the same year, a case was filed at the Gulshan Police Station in Dhaka. Following the trial, on October 30, 2007, the Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal No. 9 sentenced Babar to 17 years in prison. Babar later appealed the verdict in the High Court.
