No chance of deferral, SSC exams to start from April 10

A group of examinees has made two demands, including the deferral of the SSC and equivalent exams, and announced their intention to join a movement to achieve this. However, sources at the Dhaka Education Board have said that there is no chance of postponing the SSC exams. The exams will proceed as scheduleংd, beginning on April 10.Professor SM Kamal Uddin Haider, convener of the Inter-Education Board Examination Control Committee and the Dhaka Board Controller of Examinations, has urged examinees to focus on their final preparations rather than spreading rumours and participating in non-cooperation movements on social media platforms like Facebook.Professor Haider said, “All preparations for the exam are complete. The distribution of examination materials to all centres is in its final stage. There is no possibility of postponing the exams at this point. This movement is unreasonable."He added, "According to the information we have, nearly all students are in favour of taking the exams. A few individuals, claiming to represent students, are conspiring to postpone the exams via Facebook. They are spreading false rumours. We advise candidates and their guardians to ignore these rumours and focus on preparing for the exams."

Earlier, on Thursday morning (April 3), a notification from the 'SSC Candidates 2025' group was sent to the media. In the notification, candidates called for a one-month delay in the exams and a 3-4 day break between exams for each subject.

The notification explained that over 19 lakh 28 thousand candidates were unable to prepare adequately due to fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. Since the exams are scheduled immediately after Eid, they argued that this timing would prevent proper preparation and could negatively affect exam results. A delay of one month would allow them to prepare thoroughly, they said.

Additionally, the notification cited the extreme heat of April and May, claiming it would be difficult for students to take consecutive exams in such conditions. The heat could lead to illness, and many students have to travel long distances to reach their exam centres. The group suggested a new schedule, allowing a break of 3-4 days between each exam.

According to the published schedule from the education boards, the SSC, Dakhil, and SSC (Vocational) exams will begin on April 10. A total of 19 lakh 28 thousand 281 candidates will take part in the exams.

The written portion of the SSC exams under the 9 general education boards will conclude on May 13, while the written exams for the Madrasa Board will end on May 15. Following that, the practical exams will run until May 22.
