July martyrs' blood debt must be paid: Golam Parwar

Dhaka: Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar said, "The July martyrs have tied the nation in debt with their fresh blood. We are eternally indebted to them. We pledge that the blood of the martyrs should not go in vain."He said this in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday (July 15). In a statement, he said, "July 16, 'July Martyrs' Day', is a glorious and painful day in the history of the nation. On this day, we remember with deep respect and love all those martyred brothers and sisters who took a firm stand against discrimination, oppression, and injustice and for the establishment of a just society and democratic rights and accepted martyrdom. I pray for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs. I express my deepest condolences to the injured and the families of the deceased and injured."

He further said that on July 16, 2024, during the anti-quota student movement, martyr Abu Sayeed, a meritorious student of the English Department of Rangpur Begum Rokeya University, stood as a shield in front of the police to press his chest to achieve his demands. At that time, the police, who were ordered by Sheikh Hasina, shot and killed him brutally. As soon as the news of Abu Sayeed's martyrdom spread, the anti-quota student movement turned into a mass movement across the country.

He said, this mass movement was a groundbreaking moment, where teachers, students, guardians, youth, civil society and professionals from all walks of life united on the streets with the same demand. At one point, this student movement turned into a mass movement for the fall of the fascist dictator Sheikh Hasina.

The Jamaat secretary said, Sheikh Hasina, who was crazy for fear of losing power, ordered the firing on the students and the public to suppress the movement. The police, RAB, Army and BGB opened indiscriminate fire, killing about 2,000 freedom-seeking people and seriously injuring about 30,000 people. Several thousand people lost their hands, feet and eyes and were permanently crippled.

At one point, the mass uprising of the students and the public ended the fascist rule of the dictatorial dictator Sheikh Hasina, who had been holding the nation's neck like a rock for 15 and a half years, on August 5, 2024. Sheikh Hasina and her party's notable leaders, ministers and MPs fled to India and took refuge. The people of the country were freed from the hands of the murderer Sheikh Hasina and her foreign masters, the hegemonists. The people of the country are able to express their opinions freely. Political parties are able to carry out their activities without hindrance. All this is the fruit of the July Mass Movement.

He said, "The July martyrs have bound the nation in debt by shedding their fresh blood. We are eternally indebted to them. We pledge that the blood of the martyrs should not go in vain. We have to repay their debt by building a non-discriminatory, democratic, just and humane Bangladesh." I hereby appeal to all branches of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the countrymen to observe the great 'July Martyrs' Day' with due dignity by organizing a discussion meeting and prayer mahfil on July 16 tomorrow.
