BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman declared, “Eight or nine months ago, I spoke of an invisible enemy. You must recognise that this invisible enemy is now gradually revealing itself.” He made these remarks during a meeting with the families of Chhatra Dal martyrs at the Lakeshore Hotel in Gulshan on Saturday afternoon. The meeting was held to honour the families of 142 Chhatra Dal members who lost their lives during the July-August mass uprising.Responding to a question from a martyr’s father, Tarique Rahman stated, “We have ousted the dictatorship that conspired against our nation’s democracy. However, despite this victory, the conspiracy persists.” He added, “As I mentioned 8-9 months ago, an invisible enemy is becoming visible. At various times, they have obstructed the people’s democracy and rights, taking different stances and opposing the will of the people.”
Tarique Rahman emphasized the interim government’s responsibility, saying, “We have repeatedly told the interim government that we will not tolerate wrongdoers. It is the government’s duty to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. Why is the government failing in this regard? Like the martyr’s father who raised this question, we too demand answers from the interim government.”
Addressing the issue of justice for the martyrs, he noted, “Over the past 15-16 years, numerous leaders and activists from BNP, Juba Dal, and Chhatra Dal have been martyred. Beyond BNP, members of other parties and even neutral individuals have sacrificed their lives defending the rights of our people. If BNP forms a government with the people’s support in the future, we will ensure a fair trial for these murders. BNP will take the utmost initiative to deliver justice.”
The event was attended by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and Student Affairs Secretary Rakibul Islam Bakul as special guests. Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib presided over the meeting, with General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir moderating.
