Job seekers, students clash with police during PSC reform protest at Shahbagh

Job seekers and students clashed with police during a blockade program at Shahbagh intersection in the capital, demanding reforms to the Public Service Commission (PSC).The protesters later moved from Shahbagh to Dhaka University's Raju Sculpture and declared they would continue their sit-in program until their demands were met.The incident occurred around 6pm on Friday.Earlier, around 4pm, the protesters had gathered at Shahbagh after bringing out a demonstration march from in front of Dhaka University's central library.Salehin Sion, a former Buet student involved in the protest, said that they were moving from Shahbagh toward the Raju Sculpture when police suddenly started pushing them from behind. That is when the clash began, according to him.The protesters gathered at the base of the Raju Sculpture and announced their demands.

Their demands include increasing the number of positions in the 44th BCS exam, publishing written and viva marks along with the final results, providing an opportunity to modify cadre choice before announcing final results, preventing recommending the same person twice for the same cadre, cancelling/amending the Non-Cadre Rules 2023 and provide jobs to all candidates who pass the viva, giving application opportunities for appropriate non-cadre positions to candidates whose undergraduate subjects don't have corresponding subject codes, and various other demands.

"If these demands are not met, we will continue our day-and-night sit-in program at the Raju Sculpture," stated the announcer on behalf of the protesters. The protesters are demanding significant reforms to Bangladesh's civil service examination system, particularly regarding the 44th BCS (Bangladesh Civil Service) examination results and the PSC's policies.
