Dhaka: Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar said, "The July martyrs have tied the nation in debt with their fresh blood. We are eternally indebted to them. We pledge that the blood of the martyrs should not go in vain."He said this in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday (July 15). In a statement, he said, "July 16, 'July Martyrs' Day', is a glorious and painful day in the history of the nation. On this day, we remember with deep respect and love all those martyred brothers and sisters who took a firm stand against discrimination, oppression, and injustice and for the establishment of a just society and democratic rights and accepted martyrdom. I pray for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs. I express my deepest condolences to the injured and the families of the deceased and injured."
He further said that on July 16, 2024, during the anti-quota student movement, martyr Abu Sayeed, a meritorious student of the English Department of Rangpur Begum Rokeya University, stood as a shield in front of the police to press his chest to achieve his demands. At that time, the police, who were ordered by Sheikh Hasina, shot and killed him brutally. As soon as the news of Abu Sayeed's martyrdom spread, the anti-quota student movement turned into a mass movement across the country.
He said, this mass movement was a groundbreaking moment, where teachers, students, guardians, youth, civil society and professionals from all walks of life united on the streets with the same demand. At one point, this student movement turned into a mass movement for the fall of the fascist dictator Sheikh Hasina.
He said, "The July martyrs have bound the nation in debt by shedding their fresh blood. We are eternally indebted to them. We pledge that the blood of the martyrs should not go in vain. We have to repay their debt by building a non-discriminatory, democratic, just and humane Bangladesh." I hereby appeal to all branches of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the countrymen to observe the great 'July Martyrs' Day' with due dignity by organizing a discussion meeting and prayer mahfil on July 16 tomorrow.
