A Jubo Dal activist was gunned down by unidentified persons in Raozan upazila of Chittagong on Sunday.The deceased, Md Selim, was a resident of Kadalpur union in the upazila and an activist of the ward No 7 unit of the Jubo Dal.He was also a follower of BNP Vice Chairman Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, a former MP.According to police and locals, Selim was returning home on a motorcycle with his wife and child around noon when a group of masked individuals, dressed in black burqas, intercepted them near Ishan Pather Haat by blocking the road with a CNG-run autorickshaw.The attackers fired at Selim from the front before fleeing the scene.Locals rushed Selim to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where physicians declared him dead on arrival.Raozan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam Bhuiyan said Selim was involved with local BNP politics and had multiple cases filed against him.“We suspect the murder may be linked to a rivalry over establishing local dominance,” he said, adding that police are investigating the matter.
