BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam said that Bangladesh has not yet regained its desired democracy. Democracy has not been practiced in the country for the past 17 years. After the August 5 coup, there was hope that the country would return to a fair democratic path, but we do not see the interim government walking that path.He said that when the country's democracy was shattered after the establishment of BAKSAL, Bangladesh walked the path of democracy with the help of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. He could have enjoyed the maximum power if he wanted to, but he did not. After the fall of the one-party regime 'Bakshal' in 1975, Shahid Zia took the initiative to re-establish democracy in the country's political environment. He reintroduced 'multi-party democracy' in 1977, and for this reason, he remains in the hearts of the countrymen to this day.He made these remarks at a Milad and Doa Mahfil and food distribution program among orphans organized by nationalist doctors, officers, nurses and employees at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday to mark the 44th death anniversary of martyred President Ziaur Rahman.Regarding Begum Khaleda Zia's contribution to the establishment of democracy, Dr. Rafiq said that in line with her, national leader Begum Khaleda Zia has sacrificed her life for democracy. She was the undisputed leader of the movement against the Ershad dictatorship in the 1990s. She was elected through referendums three times and became the country's Prime Minister.Dr. Rafiq said, "Ziaur Rahman is a magic name in all fields, from economy, rule of law, restoration of democracy, foreign policy, development of healthcare."After Zohar Milad and prayers, lunch was organized for children at an orphanage in Azimpur. There, the BNP Health Affairs Secretary recalled Begum Khaleda Zia's first Iftar with orphaned children every holy month of Ramadan.
