BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Friday (May 30) said Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus should understand that the entire nation is waiting for a fair, peaceful and neutral election.He made the remark while addressing a prayer gathering and a food and clothing distribution programme at the T&T field on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital around 11:30am.
The programme was organised by Ward-99 BNP of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana under Dhaka North City BNP, marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman. Salahuddin, citing a recent report, said Dr Yunus claimed during his Japan visit that only one party wants elections. He seems misinformed. Several democratic parties submitted documents and joined his dialogue, allies of BNP and the 12-party alliance all demanded elections.

“If Dr Yunus made the remark due to misinformation, I won’t criticise him. But he should realise the people want a fair election and he should soon present a clear roadmap for holding the next national election by December,” said Salahuddin.

He also said that the reform and justice processes mentioned recently are ongoing and that reform is a continuous need of society.

“The people of Bangladesh expect justice. Those responsible for crimes—including Sheikh Hasina, her party and her allies—must face trial,” he added.
