Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has said that the Election Commission is implementing a partisan agenda."Their recent activities have made this clearer to the public," Nahid remarked on Thursday night at the Institute of Engineers in the capital, during the launch event of the NCP's Engineering Wing.Nahid said: "The Election Commission plays a crucial role in elections. However, there are flaws in the process through which the commission is formed. Many political parties had opposed this even during the fascist regime. According to the proposal of the Election Commission Reform Committee, the commission was supposed to be restructured.""We believe that neutral individuals must be appointed to the commission, people who can earn the trust of all sides," he said.He further said that discussions are ongoing in Bangladesh regarding reform and justice.
"We are seeing efforts by various parties to obstruct this. Not just domestically, but conspiracies have been orchestrated from abroad as well. We had hoped that the institutions which were politicized during the fascist era would be reformed under this government and eventually restructured in the future.
"But we are disappointed to see that our dream of a mass uprising remains elusive. This has raised concerns among us," he added.Addressing the engineers, Nahid said: “Our next struggle will be to protect our rivers and climate. This fight will require both our innovative technology and creativity, as well as profound patriotism and ethical values. Therefore, our education system must integrate these elements. We expect engineers to contribute in this area, and the state must also create space for them.”
He concluded by saying that the NCP will work sector-wise and reach every household with the spirit of the July uprising. “If we are to bring reform and change, it must expand across all sectors.”
