Students protest to remove court from Alia Madrasa ground

A group of students from Dhaka Alia Madrasa have staged a protest on the street in front of the madrasa, opposing the establishment of a temporary court on the madrasa ground for the trial of the BDR mutiny. The trial was scheduled to begin today. The students had been protesting on the street throughout the night on Wednesday (January 8), and on Thursday morning (January 9), they were still occupying the road. They have warned that they will not vacate the street until their demands are met.Although the Ministry of Law had issued directions for the trial to begin today, the students are preventing police and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) members from entering the temporary court set up on the madrasa ground. The students argue that the ground belongs to them, claiming that the prison authorities have unlawfully occupied the land and have been operating a court there for an extended period. They are demanding the removal of the court from the field.Nazeer Ahmed, a student involved in the protest, said, "We believe that after the July Revolution, we will get our ground back. We want a solution to our issue within the next hour. If a quick solution is not provided, we will organize a stronger protest."

When asked, Sub-Inspector Babul Hossain of the APBn Mirpur Unit said that local police are handling the situation.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahmudul Hasan of Shahbagh Police Station, who was present at the scene, said, "We have no information on this matter. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) will provide the details once he arrives."
