A Dhaka court today (April 15) issued an arrest warrant for 29 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, in connection with two separate cases related to a plot allocation scam in the RAJUK Purbachal New Town Project. The court, led by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib, also accepted formal charges filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).The court set April 29 for the submission of execution reports concerning the arrest orders. ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir confirmed the developments. The cases stem from accusations that Hasina and others misused their positions to unlawfully secure a 10-katha plot in the Purbachal project. A case was filed by ACC Deputy Director Md Salahuddin on January 14, accusing Hasina and eight others of abusing power in the plot allocation. An investigation later led to a charge sheet against 12 individuals, including Hasina and various officials from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and RAJUK.In the charge sheet, investigation officer Afnan Jannat Keya highlighted that Hasina did not submit an application using the designated RAJUK form and her request was not considered eligible.
Despite this, the accused allegedly circumvented the proper legal procedures and obtained the plot through illicit means. Similarly, another case was filed by ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan, accusing Hasina and her son, Joy, along with 15 others, of similar offenses related to the plot's allocation. Joy was accused of exploiting his mother's power to unlawfully secure the plot.
