Recalling the July 2024 movement, Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), said that although that fascist government has fallen, the fascist system remains."You all took to the streets. Together, we made a one-point demand to abolish the fascist authoritarian regime. Although that fascist government has fallen, the fascist system remains. The mafia rule, the violence, the occupation, all of it still exists."He made these remarks on Wednesday during a street rally held at Ghoshpara in Kurigram town, after arriving there as part of the "July March."
Addressing the crowd, this key coordinator of the July mass uprising said: "We believe our struggle is not over. To continue that fight and to build a new country, we call upon you to join us. The political party formed by the leadership of this mass uprising is the NCP."
He urged support for the NCP to ensure national development and fulfill the goals of the uprising.
Nahid Islam further said: "Kurigram symbolizes the struggle for the Teesta water-sharing agreement. Kurigram means Taramon Bibi taking up arms in the Liberation War; Kurigram means my brothers who were martyred in the July 24 uprising. Although Kurigram has always fought, it has always been neglected. Development does not mean only Dhaka’s progress. Even though we hear of development, it does not reach everyone. In the future, development must reach Kurigram equally."
Before Nahid Islam’s speech, several others spoke from the temporary stage at the rally, including Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer (Southern Region); Sarjis Alam, chief organizer (Northern Region); and Tasnim Zara, senior joint member secretary.
At that time, Senior Joint Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud, Joint Convener Dr Atique Mujahid, and local leaders were present.
Before entering Kurigram town, NCP leaders held a street rally in Rajarhat Upazila. After the rally in Kurigram town, they left for Phulbari in Kurigram to attend another street rally, and from there, continued their journey to Lalmonirhat.
