
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has stated that the Election Commission is moving forward with December in mind, aiming to meet the timeline for the upcoming elections. "Our timeline is set for December, and we are working accordingly. If the election takes place in December, the schedule must be announced by October. We are preparing in a way that ensures we do not miss this timeline," he said.The CEC made these comments after a meeting with the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cook, at the Election Commission office in Agargaon on Monday (March 10). He also mentioned that there had been no discussion with the ambassador regarding local government elections. When asked if he has "boarded the election train," the Chief Election Commissioner replied, "We have been preparing for the national election since the day the Chief Adviser made the announcement. However, the declaration for the national election will come from the Chief Adviser."
Additionally, the CEC stated that they discussed preparations for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election with the British High Commissioner. "We shared our preparations with them and requested their assistance, particularly in training candidates' agents and election observers. They expressed their willingness to help and inquired about the specific support we need."
The CEC also mentioned, "The British High Commissioner wanted to know about the status of our preparation for the parliamentary election, what stage we are at, and what preparations are currently underway. The UK is willing to support Bangladesh's democratic transition. They also inquired about the involvement of foreign observers, and we provided them with all the necessary information. We informed them about our ongoing efforts in voter registration and political party registration, and we will ensure that arrangements for foreign observers are made on time."
