BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Zainul Abedin Farroque on Wednesday said that a new conspiracy against BNP has begun again, evidenced by the hand fan rally, referring to Islami Andolan’s gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan, as well as by statements from certain political leaders, the push for a PR system, and the absence of elections. Farroque made the comment at a discussion titled “Citizens’ Role in Combating Domestic and Foreign Conspiracies over PR-Based Elections,” organized by the Grassroots Citizen Movement at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah Hall of the National Press Club, reports Bangla Tribune.He said: “When the meeting between BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in London is just waiting for results, suddenly a rally is held at Suhrawardy Udyan, meetings are organized, and a few more political leaders join in, saying there can be no election without proportional representation and reform.”

Addressing the interim government, he said: “You have already spent 10–11 months. But you have one target—February. Please hold the election in February. Bring peace to the country, and let the people live in peace. Constitutional institutions have been destroyed. Let an elected government restore the functionality of these institutions.”
