
Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Shafiqul Alam, was confined at Khulna Press Club amid ongoing demonstrations by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement demanding the resignation of the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) commissioner.He had gone to visit the press club when the students began a sit-in in front of the premises, blocking the road. As a result, the press secretary became confined inside.The students declared that he would not be allowed to leave without an official announcement regarding the KMP commissioner’s resignation.As of 7:30pm, when this report was filed, the press secretary remained confined at the club.
Journalist Mostafa Jamal Poplu said that the press secretary had arrived at the Khulna Press Club around 5pm following a views-exchange meeting with local journalists at the deputy commissioner’s office.
During the visit, a group of students and supporters of the movement gathered in front of the club, effectively preventing anyone from exiting.
At one point, the demonstrators declared that unless there was an announcement regarding the KMP commissioner’s resignation, the press secretary would not be allowed to leave.
