Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced a new decision aimed at safeguarding public health. She noted that many countries worldwide list the amounts of sugar, salt, and saturated fat on the packaging of foods and beverages to combat non-communicable diseases and inform consumers. “In line with global standards, we have decided to implement this practice in Bangladesh as well,” she said, emphasising that it will help consumers make informed choices about what they eat.Hasan shared these remarks during a media briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Tuesday, March 4.“Internationally, it is common practice to include warnings about sugar, salt, and saturated fat content on packaged foods and beverages to safeguard public health and combat non-communicable diseases. Concurrently, the Directorate General of Health Services, in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce, will adopt a balanced approach to implement further measures, tailored to regional standards in Bangladesh,” she added.
