No personal agenda, only fair election: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said on Sunday that they have made a promise to the nation to ensure a fair election. "We have no personal agenda. We have not come to implement anyone else’s agenda. Our agenda is the agenda of 18 crore people. Our agenda is Bangladesh's agenda. Our agenda is the agenda of the citizens of Bangladesh—to conduct a free and fair election. We are working to fulfill the promise we made," he stated. He made these remarks during a discussion on National Voter's Day at the Election Commission office. The CEC further emphasised that election-related violence leads to long-term harm. "Election violence may seem like a victory in the short term, but in the long run, it brings harm to individuals, political parties, and the country. Violence does not bring lasting success. It may seem like a win, but in the end, it is not good for anyone—neither for the individual, the party, nor the nation. This is true not only in Bangladesh but everywhere in the world," he said.

He added, "My expectation is that there will be no disturbances during the elections. InshaAllah, we are here with all our might for the 18-crore people. I request the people of the country to stand by us. We are fighting for the establishment of your rights. There is not much time left, but we are working very hard within the limited time available."

The CEC also mentioned, "I envision a new Bangladesh. If we slip in any way, it will be a betrayal of the youth. We want to establish the right to vote. Voting is a civic responsibility. This is our great duty. Wherever I go, people greet me with a salute and say, 'Sir, the entire country is watching.' There is a huge expectation from the people across the country. No one has ever faced such expectations. The people’s expectations have grown enormously. With everyone's cooperation, we are moving forward."
