Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam resigned from the advisory council of the interim government on Tuesday.There had been speculation for several days that he would step down from the council to join a new political party, which is set to be officially launched on February 28.The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens Committee are in the process of forming the new political party, which will be led by Nahid Islam.Several reliable sources within the citizens committee confirmed his resignation to Jago News.Nahid Islam had served as the spokesperson for the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement during the July-August mass uprising. Following that movement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5. Three days later, on August 8, an interim government was formed under the leadership of Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Nahid Islam was appointed as an advisor to that government.
