The government has announced a three-day general holiday starting from tomorrow (August 5), as confirmed by Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, on Sunday (August 4) afternoon. In addition to the holiday, a curfew has been imposed across all departmental headquarters, city corporations, municipalities, industrial areas, district headquarters, and upazila headquarters, including the Dhaka metropolis. The curfew will begin at 6 pm on Sunday and will remain in effect until further notice, according to a press release from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has initiated an all-out non-cooperation movement, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government. Reports indicate that violence associated with this movement has led to several deaths in different parts of the country. In response, the government has issued a round-the-clock curfew starting this evening.
