Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called on the countrymen to resist what she termed as "terrorists," referring to the ongoing protesters.After a meeting of the National Security Committee at Ganabhaban on Sunday, the Prime Minister made this appeal, as conveyed by her assistant press secretary ABM Sarwar-e-Alam Sarker to the media."The individuals engaging in acts of subversion are not students, but terrorists," the Prime Minister stated. "I urge the countrymen to resist these terrorists with an iron hand," she added.Amid the ongoing non-cooperation movement by anti-discrimination students, a meeting of the National Security Committee took place at Ganabhaban.The meeting began shortly after 11am and ended around 2:00pm. The committee is convened by the Prime Minister and includes 29 members, comprising ministers, state ministers, the Security Advisor, secretaries, and heads of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, BGB, Coast Guard, Forces Intelligence, and NSI.
Formed in 2019, the National Security Committee is tasked with reviewing all issues and activities related to the security and defense of the country.
Its responsibilities include assessing and reviewing the internal security situation, providing directives on necessary security measures, and formulating recommendations for the Cabinet as required. The Cabinet Division provides secretarial support to this committee.
