While searching for the missing youth in Savar, the Dhaka District North Detective (DB) Police recovered some bones and skulls from the house of a drug dealer. According to the detective police, a young man named Tofazzal Hossain alias Tono (28) went missing about 11 months ago. In search of that young man, his bones and skulls were dug up in the ground of the drug dealer Swapan's house in Imandipur area of Savar. DB Police said,"he was buried after he was killed in a dispute over drug dealing."On Tuesday (June 11) afternoon, bones and skulls were recovered from the house of drug dealer Swapan in Anandpur City Lane of the upazila. Earlier, the operation which had been going on since last Monday afternoon was suspended for the night and police guard was placed at Swapan's house. DB police started operation again from Tuesday afternoon.
Missing Tono was a resident of Imandipur area of Savar. He went missing on July 18, 2023. His family filed a General Diary (GD) in Savar Model Police Station in this incident.
Drug dealer Swapan is the son of Shahjahan of Emandipur in Savar municipality. He has several houses in different areas of Savar.
According to the police, on June 2, a woman named Seema went missing from a rented house in khonijnagar area of Savar's Birulia Union. A person named Saiful Islam was arrested in that incident on June 6. According to the information given by him, the body of Seema Akhter buried in the ground in Mineralnagar area was recovered. Besides, Saiful revealed the names of five other people involved in the incident and gave a statement in court. When he was questioned further, he said that after killing another person named Tono, he was buried underground in the ground floor of a vacant two-storey house of drug dealer Swapan on Anandpur City Lane in Savar. Based on this, the DB police started digging the soil of the house last Monday.
The body was not found till Monday evening. DB arrested drug dealer Swapan from Kulla of Dhamrai upazila on Tuesday. According to the information given by Swapan, the soil was dug again in that house. A few bones and skulls were recovered from about seven feet below the ground.
Police Superintendent of Dhaka District Asaduzzaman said, "According to the information obtained during the interrogation of Saiful, the drug dealer involved in Seema's murder, clues to Tofazzal's body have been found. That is why the soil of that house was dug up on Monday. When Swapan was arrested on Tuesday, he confessed to killing Tofazzal. Some bones and skulls of the dead body were found by digging the soil of the specific area of the room shown by him.
He said, "Swapan is a serial killer. He is a drug dealer. Earlier, a DB team arrested Swapan's wife and a local drug dealer."
Asked how the body was confirmed, he said, "Here is the shirt that was found next to the body. His wife came and identified Tono's shirt. After that, we will confirm whether the body is Tono's with DNA. But initially, Swapan admitted that it was that incident and this Tono's body has been recovered. We will interrogate him further if there is any such missing person complaint."
The SP also said that mainly because of the drug trade, the conflict between them arose. Later Tono was kidnapped. He was strangled to death. A more extensive inquiry into who else was involved in the incident may reveal more information.
Osman Gani, the uncle of the missing Tono, said they had a conflict over Yaba. Swapan used to sell yaba in Anandpur with 10 to 12 workers. Similarly, Yaba used to send to Imandipur as well. But Tonor protested not to send Yaba to Imandipur. There was a conflict between them. The time of disappearance was the month of fasting. On the 27th Ramadan, Tono was performing Ramadan Salah with me. Then disappeared. I couldn't find it anymore. I told the police station, I complained. Finally DB took drastic action. We want fair trial.
