Ignoring hundreds of demands of students, Bangladesh Open University (BAUBI) authorities are adamant on their decision to hold their first and final year post graduation exams at Gazipur main campus. And the students of the last phase of Masters studying in the university have burst into anger with such apathetic behavior of the university authorities. They have expressed their deep anger and disappointment at this behavior of the university. Many decided to skip the exam in Gazipur in the scorching heat.According to sources in the university, classes are held two days a week at Dhaka Regional Center. Since most of the students of the Open University are working people, classes are held only on Fridays and about 17 classrooms are completely empty on Saturdays. The students are angry as they want to know why it is not possible to take the exam in Dhaka. A student who does not want to be named said that when he talks to the university authorities, they keep saying one thing over and over again, the communication system between Dhaka and Gazipur is much better now. So there will be no problem. But in reality, the university authorities provided cars for the transportation of everyone from the vice-chancellor to the higher-ups.And the university has AC vehicles for the transportation of first class teachers and officials. There is no transport service for university students only.
A postgraduate student of the university said on condition of anonymity, "We came to know from the notice published on the website that our exam will be held in Gazipur. And the examination routine has been given in such a way that the examination is going to start immediately after Eid. After seeing it, we quickly submit the application to the Vice-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor (Education), Controller of Examinations and Dean. In this, we mention two claims. The first demand is that the examination should be delayed by a week instead of taking it immediately after Eid and the second demand is that our examination should be conducted at the regional center in Dhaka as per the previous rules. But it is with great regret that we note that our first demand was accepted by the university authorities very quickly but the second demand was not accepted. We are disappointed with this.
Only the law department exam will be held at Dhaka regional center. The examination in five subjects (Bengali, Philosophy, History of Islam, Political Science, Sociology) will be held at the main campus of the university at Gazipur. In this context, Jahangir Alam Zahid, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Languages (SSHL) of the university, said that this has been done to reduce the session congestion of students. He said Masters was never in Dhaka Regional Center. It used to take classes in Dhaka College. But now they are not able to provide space, so I decided to bring it to Gazipur. And I am spreading the Master's course all over the country. It will benefit the students. He said, students will have night accommodation in our main campus. Even if you want, you can take the exam together with your husband and wife. Vice Chancellor Dr. Syed Humayan Akhtar PAD said in this regard, there is AC here. Students will sit the exam in AC room. They will have no problem.
