The Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Workers' Association has announced that their ongoing strike will continue as a two-hour meeting with railway authorities failed to yield any compromise. The strike, which began midnight past Monday, stems from demands for pension and gratuity in addition to the running allowance. As a result, train services nationwide have been suspended since Tuesday morning, leaving passengers with advance tickets stranded at stations and facing significant inconvenience. Efforts to resolve the crisis included a meeting between the railway authorities and running staff representatives, held on Tuesday afternoon at the VIP room of Dhaka Railway Station. The meeting, which started at 1:30pm, was attended by Mohammad Md Fahimul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, and Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Special Assistant to the BNP Chairperson and Coordinator of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal.Despite the discussions, the running staff representatives left at 2:45 pm without any resolution.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Md. Saidur Rahman, Executive President of the Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Workers Union, said: "We had a long meeting with the Railway Secretary and Director General. However, no decisions were reached, so we decided to leave. The strike will continue until our demands are met."
The running staff leaders added that while further discussions may take place, the strike will persist for the time being.
The ongoing strike has paralysed train operations across the country, causing significant disruptions for passengers and logistical networks. The lack of resolution adds uncertainty about when train services will resume, leaving travelers and authorities in a challenging situation.
