Seven government colleges will no longer remain affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) starting from the 2024-25 academic year. Admission tests for these colleges under DU have been discontinued, as per a decision made during an emergency meeting on Monday (January 27).The meeting, chaired by DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, included the principals of the seven colleges and took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s office lounge. Following the meeting, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan addressed journalists at the Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury virtual classroom.In a written statement, the Vice-Chancellor expressed regret over recent incidents involving the affiliated colleges and urged students to maintain patience, harmony, and mutual respect. Separation of Affiliated Colleges: The seven government colleges will part ways with Dhaka University in an honourable manner.
Admission Changes: Admission under DU for the colleges will cease from the 2024-25 academic session, a year earlier than previously planned.
Academic Oversight by Expert Committee: The 2024-25 academic activities will be overseen by an expert committee formed by the Ministry of Education on December 29.
Student Demands Addressed: The committee will determine seat numbers, admission fees, and other matters for the upcoming session.
Current Students Supported: DU will ensure that the education of students currently enrolled in its programs remains unaffected.
The Vice-Chancellor called on all stakeholders to act responsibly to ensure the smooth continuation of educational activities during this transition.
