
US President Donald Trump says India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire”.In a post on social media platform Truth Social, the US President says: "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE."Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar also said Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect,He adds: "Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!"US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says India and Pakistan "have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site".
In a post on X, he adds: "We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace."
He says that he and JD Vance spent the past 48 hours with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif.
India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri says both India and Pakistan would "stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea" with effect from 17:00 IST, reports BBC.
Misri said the director general of military operations for Pakistan called his Indian counterpart this afternoon and the two sides agreed that both sides would stop all firing on the ground, in the air and by the sea at 17:00 local time (12:30 BST). The two sides will speak again on May 12.
