The interim government has formally handed over mutation documents for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan residence, which was originally allotted to her by the state more than four decades ago.According to BNP sources, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Riazul Islam personally visited the ailing former prime minister on Wednesday night to deliver the documents. They were accompanied by Housing and Public Works Secretary Nazrul Islam during the brief visit, which took place around 9 pm at Khaleda Zia’s residence.Speaking to reporters, ABM Abdus Sattar, the BNP chief’s personal secretary, said the officials stayed for approximately half an hour.“The adviser brought some documents and handed them over to Madam [Khaleda Zia] during a courtesy call,” Sattar said, though he added that he was not aware of the exact nature of the paperwork.
The house, situated on 1.5 bighas of land in Dhaka’s upscale Gulshan neighbourhood, was allocated to Khaleda Zia following the assassination of her husband, President Ziaur Rahman, in 1981.
The property is located near 'Firoza', the residence where the BNP chief has been living in recent years due to her declining health. Party insiders said the mutation process was completed under the current interim administration.
