Nahid: Publishing July Charter before election date crucial

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said that drafting and publishing the July Charter before the announcement of the election date is extremely important.Nahid made the comment during a courtesy meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen in Dhaka on Wednesday, as part of an NCP delegation, reports Bangla Tribune.The information was shared in a press release sent to the media on Thursday.Nahid emphasized that the July Charter is not merely a policy document but also a moral obligation to those who sacrificed their lives in the July uprising with a dream for change.Nahid said: “The NCP firmly believes that a sustainable democratic path can only be established based on public aspirations and structural reforms.”

He noted that “the July Charter will lay a clear foundation for electoral reform, judicial independence, and inclusive political participation, serving as a guiding framework for future politics.”

He particularly emphasized the need for structural reform of the Election Commission.

He also called for local government elections followed by a constituent assembly and parliamentary elections to ensure inclusive public participation and institutional accountability at all levels.

Nahid mentioned that the meeting included discussions on the country’s democratic journey, the ongoing reform process, and the evolving political landscape in Bangladesh, which have drawn deep interest both nationally and internationally.

A sincere and forward-looking discussion took place between the Chinese ambassador and the NCP leaders.

The delegation presented their vision for an inclusive democratic transformation in Bangladesh and highlighted structural challenges that affect political stability.

Yao Wen warmly welcomed the NCP delegation’s overall vision for the state and thanked them for their thoughtful engagement.

He reiterated China’s policy of non-interference and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s social and economic development.

The Chinese ambassador also stressed the importance of continuous and constructive dialogue among political parties and highlighted the crucial role of youth in shaping Bangladesh’s future.
