Dismissed BDR members stage sit-in at Shaheed Minar

The dismissed members of the BDR and their family members, victims of the Pilkhana carnage, are staging a sit-in at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, demanding six key points, including the closure of farce trials, reinstatement of innocent BDR personnel, and compensation. The protest began at 9:00 am on Tuesday, with some protesters having been there since Monday night.Upon visiting the area, it was observed that the dismissed BDR members and their families were gathered around the Shaheed Minar, holding various banners and placards. Many of them wore badges featuring different slogans. A canopy had been set up on one side of the Shaheed Minar for resting and overnight stays, with some protesters taking rest there.

During the sit-in, the protesters were shouting slogans such as "No to BGB, Yes to BDR," "Delhi or Dhaka—Dhaka, Dhaka," and "Negotiation or Struggle—Struggle, Struggle," as part of their demand for justice.

A BDR member named BM Kamruzzaman said, "The then autocrat Sheikh Hasina destroyed the well-trained BDR force to please a neighboring country, orchestrating a planned massacre of innocent BDR personnel under the guise of a mutiny. This was not a mutiny; it was a planned massacre. We demand a proper investigation, fair justice, and the reinstatement of the BDR members."

The protest will continue on February 12 and 13, with dismissed BDR members and their families from across the country participating and speaking at the event.
The six demands of the BDR members are:

1. Establish 18 special courts and a summary court inside and outside Pilkhana to reinstate all dismissed BDR members and provide compensation and state facilities.

2. Immediately release BDR members who have been acquitted in murder cases or have completed their sentences, and cancel the politically motivated explosive cases.

3. The commission formed must work independently and impartially. The provision in the gazette notification concerning Section 2(Uma) should be removed. Additionally, based on an independent investigation report, innocent BDR members who have been wrongfully convicted should be released, and the true cause of the Pilkhana massacre should be revealed. The masterminds and perpetrators of the killings should be identified and punished as an example.

4. Ensure justice for the perpetrators of the murders of 57 army officers, 10 BDR members, and a total of 74 people in the Pilkhana massacre. Additionally, the cause of death of every BDR member who died in jail should be revealed. If their deaths were unnatural, those responsible should be brought to justice.

5. Restore the historic name of the BDR, which represents the glory of the country's independence and sovereignty.

6. Declare a national day of remembrance for the martyrs of the Pilkhana massacre and ensure the safety of the martyr families.
