Ex-minister Shahjahan Khan on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Awami League presidium member and former minister for shipping, Shahjahan Khan, on a seven-day remand in a case over the murder of a teenage boy during the student-people movement.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed passed the order on Friday after the police had produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand. The Detective Branch under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Shahjahan Khan in the capital early today.A teenager named Abdul Motalib, 14, joined the student-people protests in the capital's Dhanmondi on August 4 when he was shot dead.On August 26, his father Abdul Matin filed the case against 176 individuals, including Shahjahan Khan, and 250-300 unidentified others with the Dhanmondi police station.Shahjahan Khan was elected member of parliament for eight consecutive times from Madaripur-2 constituecy. He is also the executive president of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation.
