Overall, 70.9 percent of households were victims of corruption in 2023. Passport, BRTA and law enforcement agencies are at the top of corruption, respectively.This information was presented in a research report titled National Household Survey on Corruption in the Service Sector-2023 at the Midas Center on Tuesday (December 3).The report said that 77.2 percent of the bribe-paying households included in the survey said that services cannot be obtained without paying a bribe. The institutionalization of bribery continues. A bribe of Tk. 10,902 crore was paid in the survey year. The estimated amount of bribes from 2009 to April 2024 is Tk. 1, 46,252 crore. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of TIB, said that TIB has been conducting the National Household Survey every year since 1997. This survey is not conceptual research, but a survey based on the experience of those who are subjected to harassment while receiving services. TIB is not related to the report that publishes the Corruption Perception Index.The survey was conducted on 15,515 offices, which included education, health, local government, land, agriculture, law enforcement agencies, judicial process, electricity, banking, BRTA, tax and customs, NGOs, passport, insurance, gas, climate change and disaster relief and NID services.

Among others, Professor Mohammad Shoaib, Professor PK Matiur Rahman, Professor Sikandar H Khan, TIB Director (Research and Policy) Mohammad Badiuzzaman, Director (Outreach and Communication) Mohammad Touhidul Islam, Research Fellow Mohammad Nure Alam, Research Assistant Mohammad Abdul Hannan Sakhidar were present at the time.
