Nahid finds India’s actions ‘inhumane’, ‘uncooperative’

Nahid Islam, the information adviser of the interim government, criticised India for its "inhumane" and "uncooperative" actions in opening a dam without prior warning, leaving Bangladesh unprepared to deal with the resulting flood. He stated that the flood was caused by the onrush of upstream water from India.Speaking to reporters outside the State Guest House Jamuna after a meeting of the interim government’s advisory council on Thursday, Nahid emphasised the need for India to reconsider its policies towards Bangladesh. "We hope that India will withdraw from such policies against the people of Bangladesh as soon as possible. The students and people of Bangladesh are angry about this policy of India," he said. Nahid also called for a fair and collaborative approach between the two nations to protect their people from natural disasters, noting that Bangladesh has long been advocating for a fair share of water.

He expressed hope that the relationship between Bangladesh and India would be based on fairness, avoiding any potential tensions.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan also addressed various issues during the briefing.
